What’s different about PromaxLS lower sugar bars?

Unlike some other lower sugar protein bars that use maltitol (a sugar alcohol that can upset your stomach), artificial sweeteners (like sucralose), and incomplete proteins from animal bi-products (like gelatin), PromaxLS has 18g of complete, high quality protein, only 9g of sugar, is an excellent source of fiber, and contains stevia, an all-natural, non-nutritive sweetener. PromaxLS is also gluten-free, vegetarian and contains no artificial sweeteners or animal bi-products.

The ingredients in PromaxLS work together to elicit a low glycemic response, while providing sufficient carbohydrates to help transport the proteins into the body’s cells. The fiber complements the reduced sugar and a significant amount of protein to help produce lasting satiety. Soluble corn fiber has been shown to be well-tolerated in the body. Do Promax energy bars contain a beneficial amount of protein?

Yes. Promax energy bars are an excellent source of high quality, complete protein. The highest protein per bar is found in regular Promax bars (20g/bar), then PromaxLS and Crunch (18g/bar) followed by Fit ‘n Crisp (13g/bar). They provide between 26- 40% of the recommended daily intake of protein (based on FDA guidelines) depending on the particular bar. The amount of protein in a Promax Core bar is the equivalent grams of protein to eating 3 large eggs (21g protein), two cups of low-fat milk (22g protein) or 4 ounces of canned tuna (20g protein).

Protein is an important part of a balanced nutrition program because it contains amino acids that are the building blocks of every structure in our body, including skin, hair, nails, muscle tissue, hormones and the immune system. Nine of these amino acids are classified as essential, meaning they cannot be manufactured by our bodies and must come from food. The protein in Promax energy bars helps the body recover after exercise, form new tissue and regulate key body functions.

Are Promax energy bars made with high-quality protein?

Absolutely. All of the proteins in Promax energy bars (soy, whey and milk casein) are complete proteins, which contain all nine amino acids, the building blocks of every structure in our body. Each of these three protein sources has the highest Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) of 1, indicating they are all complete proteins.

Promax energy bars do not contain any gelatin, an incomplete protein source typically derived from processing pigs and cow skins and hoofs, which has a PDCAAS score of 0.

Do Promax energy bars contain favorable amounts of carbohydrates?

Yes, and, contrary to what you may have heard, carbohydrates in moderation are good for you! They act as the primary, clean-burning energy source in the body, help stabilize our blood sugar levels to help maintain optimal physical and mental performance and carry protein to the muscle cells. A steady flow of blood glucose from dietary carbohydrates also quells hunger cravings and prevents lean muscle tissue from being sacrificed as an energy source. Promax bars’ balanced combination of carbohydrates, protein and dietary fat help sustain energy levels and support appetite satisfaction.

Why do Promax energy bars contain different types of natural sweeteners?

Promax energy bars are designed with different sweeteners to help optimize glycemic response. Some natural sweeteners, like dextrose, enter the bloodstream rapidly. Others, such as fructose, break down much slower. In a meal or nutrition supplement, when a profile of varying levels of sugars are combined with protein and fat, it creates a product that gradually increases blood glucose levels (associated with energy levels) and maintains them for an extended period of time. Stevia is used in PromaxLS and Crunch as a non-nutritive sweetener and elicits no glycemic response. If you are looking for Promax energy bars with less sugar, PromaxLS, Fit ‘n Crisp and Crunch are great choices.

Why do you include vitamins and minerals in some Promax energy bars?

Similar to a balanced whole food meal or snack, Promax Core and LS bars provide our bodies with beneficial amounts of carbohydrates, protein, dietary fat, and vitamins and minerals. Carbohydrates , protein and fat are known as macronutrients. Vitamins and minerals are known as micronutrients. They work together synergistically to support energy regulation, metabolism, digestion, immunity, lean tissue and bone maintenance, hormonal response, and a myriad of other important bodily functions. Promax Core and LS bars are an excellent source of 18 essential vitamins and minerals.

Why do you include stevia in PromaxLS and Crunch bars?

Stevia is a plant (specifically, a member of the chrysanthemum family) native to portions of northeastern Paraguay. Its leaves contain glycosides which account for its incredible sweetness, and have been used to sweeten foods and beverages for more than 200 years. Stevia is used in PromaxLS and Crunch bars as a natural, non-nutritive sweetener to make the bar taste great while reducing the amount of sugar in the bar. It is a natural alternative to artificial sweeteners like sucralose, saccharin and aspartame.

Why do you use soluble corn fiber in PromaxLS bars?

Soluble corn fiber is used in PromaxLS bars because it is well-tolerated, has a low glycemic response and replaces sweeteners such as corn syrup or sugar, with only half of the calories. Soluble corn fiber is also an excellent source of dietary fiber and offers the health benefit of being prebiotic. Prebiotics feed and stimulate the growth and metabolism of good bacteria in the gut, aiding digestion and supporting the body’s immune system.

Which Promax energy bars are gluten-free?

Promax Core, PromaxLS and Crunch bars are certified gluten-free by the GFCO (Gluten Free Certifying Organization). The GFCO defines the standard for gluten-free as less than 10 ppm which is half the proposed FDA standard of 20 ppm gluten. GFCO certification requires that each ingredient has been evaluated and approved by the GFCO as gluten-free. In addition, strict standards have been set in the manufacturing facility to assure no cross-contamination. Finally, the finished product is tested as final assurance that Promax bars comply with the GFCO certification. Promax Fit ‘n Crisp bars contain no gluten ingredients but have not yet been certified by the GFCO.

Why is Barley Malt Extract in Nutty Butter Crisp and LS Peanut Butter Cookie Dough?

Barley malt extract is included in Promax Nutty Butter Crisp & LS Peanut Butter Cookie Dough bars as a minor, sub-ingredient in the soy crisps which are purchased as a finished ingredient. The crisps have been tested by independent labs at less than 3-ppm gluten. Finished bars have also been tested with results of less than 10-ppm gluten. Nonetheless, Promax has removed the barley malt extract from these flavors on production runs beginning April 2012. The other bars in the Promax core and LS line do not currently contain barley malt extract.

Additionally, some forms of maltitol have been shown to have a glycemic index equivalent to honey and only one less calorie per gram than sugar.

Do Promax energy bars contain gelatin?

No. Gelatin, typically made from the byproducts of the meat and leather industries, is an incomplete protein source. It lacks the amino acid tryptophan and contains only a small amount of methionine.
